Tetrament Release New Single ‘Depths’ From Their Upcoming Debut EP, ‘The Path of Least Existence’

Tetrament’s latest single Depths from their upcoming debut EP, The Path of Least Existence, was cobbled together the same way most of their songs are. Matty had the lyrics and Sammy had the riffs. It all fit together like a hand in a glove. It was the first of their songs that drummer Mick Davies had been the involved in the writing of from its inception, having only joined them a few months earlier. The boys got in the jam room and 2 hours later it was more or less done. They say was a very organic thing the way it fell into place, which isn’t always the case.

The opening line of Depths, “We are defined by our torment” came to Matty whilst watching a show about a middle eastern dictator, how his experiences throughout his life had shaped him, and how in the end we do what we know. And, for the most part, that this really is the case for all of us. That line sat alone on an otherwise empty page for months.

The rest of the lyrics came about during his first stint in rehab. Matty is open about his struggles with substance abuse and mental health issues, starting in his early teens. This song came about during his first real attempt at rectifying it. It’s a window into his mind at a time when he was at his most vulnerable.
Depths was the obvious choice to them as the follow up single to Lifeless as they sit quite apart from each other within their scope of music, with Depths showing (no pun intended) a deeper, more personal side.

Tetrament shot the film clip with Matt Brida of BridaFilms out on a patch of mud on the Hinze dam and couldn’t be happier with the result. Brida absolutely nailed the vibe they were going for, with only a few minor edits from his original cut. The response to the clip has been amazing and very humbling to them, and has left the boys beyond excited to unleash their debut EP on the world.

Recording has been divided between Pulpitation studios under the care of Chris Ross, and their own home studios with Clint Vincent of Dead Letter Circus. Vinnie also mixed and mastered all 5 tracks on the EP, and in their words, made the whole experience an absolute pleasure.
Matty comments: “This release has been a long time in the making, 5 years for Tetrament, but speaking for myself, a lifetime. I draw on the experiences of my short but colourful life in my writing. More times than I can count I’ve been in that dark helpless place where white noise floods every sense and it feels like there’s no hope, and then a line from a song playing in the background cuts through and tells me I’m not alone. I’m not the first person to go through this. And I’m still here directly because of that. If my words can do that for just 1 kid going through the same, then my life and all my struggles have been worth it.”

Tetrament’s “The Path of Least Existence” is due to be released on December 8th on all streaming services, followed on December 9th by their EP Launch at The Woolly Mammoth Mane Stage supported by their brothers in Massic, Adriatic, and Sydneysiders Chronic and Besomora.
