Today Queensland Melodic Punks Fake News release their video and single ‘Southbound’ today and announce the new album ‘Dead Set’.
The band kicked off 2025 with an Australian tour supporting Millencolin & Pennywise and signed with international record label Thousand Island Records.
The Band reflects on the track.
“Southbound is about Tim driving down from his house on the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast to record vocals for our songs. The songs from our back catalogue were recorded in Darren’s sweaty, cramped, dungeon of a home studio. The music to this song was originally written years ago and was the benchmark of the Fake News sound but we had to sit on it until the right vocals came along for it.
Tim would be on the road and used the car as his studio to put the lyrics together & do rough recordings & send them back to Darren. This happened repeatedly throughout our time and became a weekend release, a chance for us all to get together and share some good times – this inspired the lyrics for the song.
The video clip illustrates Tim’s regular pilgrimage south along to Darren’s to record the vocals. We decided to pull Nick’s VL out of the garage & have some fun making the video. It’s a fun song with some great sing along melodies and we are so happy to finally be able to release it to the world. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.”
