Adelaide-based post-hardcore band Those Left Behind are set to release their latest single, “Ouroboros,” on November 27, 2024. This emotionally charged track explores the raw and painful experience of betrayal, addiction, and the cyclical destruction that often comes with the battle of watching a loved one struggle with substance abuse.
The title “Ouroboros,” inspired by the ancient symbol of a serpent eating its own tail, encapsulates the unrelenting cycle of self-destruction that addiction can create, and the heartbreak that comes with being caught in the wake of that chaos. With intense vocals, gripping guitar riffs, and a dynamic rhythm section, “Ouroboros” brings to life the crushing emotional turmoil of witnessing a close friend spiral into addiction and ultimately betray your trust.
“We wrote ‘Ouroboros’ after experiencing the painful reality of a close friend battling addiction,” explains frontman Timmy B. “It’s a song about the betrayal that comes when someone you care about chooses their addiction over their relationships, and how it feels like you’re stuck in an endless loop of pain, trying to hold on but knowing you’re being consumed in the process. The ouroboros symbol represents the toxic cycle that can feel impossible to break.”
The single follows Those Left Behind’s successful previous releases, showcasing the band’s signature sound—combining raw vulnerability with powerful, aggressive instrumentation. Fans of bands like Lamb Of God, Killswitch Engage, and Parkway Drive will find themselves drawn to the track’s emotional depth and hard-hitting energy.
“Ouroboros” will be available on all major streaming platforms from November 27, 2024. A music video to accompany the release will also be unveiled soon, giving fans a visual representation of the intense emotional and psychological themes explored in the track.
