Brisbane alternative nu-metal outfit Headwreck are back with their chaotic new single Filet-O-Fish. The band have already run it around Australia this year at shows supporting the likes of Windwaker, Thousand Below, ERRA, Silent Planet and Diamond Construct, and will join Inertia‘s ‘Second Shadow’ Australian Tour this weekend and Northlane‘s Regional Queensland run in August.
Filet-O-Fish debuted on triple j CORE on Tuesday night, and is Headwreck at their most unfiltered—it’s heavy, high-energy, and encourages listeners to bust a move. The track blends chaotic metalcore riffs with unexpected twists and doesn’t take itself too seriously, featuring a tongue-in-cheek quote from The Office (US),“Boy, have you lost your mind? ‘Cause I’ll help you find it!”, in the chorus.
“This song is one where we really wanted to experiment the most,” says the band. “It includes a sort of phonk ish rap section which is definitely not a safe move for us, but that’s exactly the point. We didn’t want to play it safe, and wanted to do whatever the hell we wanted. And the title has nothing to do with anything because yolo.”
Filet-O-Fish is cut from the same cloth as earlier singles—Plan Z, LOW BLOW!, and Buzzsaw and teases a larger release slated for later this year, produced, mixed and mastered by Chris Lalic (Windwaker, RinRin). Headwreck’s new collection drops the ‘tough guy’ act and sees them embrace their most genuine and goofy selves both sonically and visually, enjoying the music they make and the bonds they’ve created. All tracks were received incredibly well, with Plan Z landing seven triple j 4+ star staff reviews on Unearthed, LOW BLOW! coined Feature Video on Rage and Buzzsaw featuring as Rage’s Wild One upon release as well, making Metal Hammer‘s ‘Tracks Of The Week’ list and featuring on national television on a Channel 7 Friday night Football game.
