Sydney nu-metalcore rising stars Broken Earth drop their genre-blending new single The Distance.
Blending raw emotion with crushing heaviness, The Distance expands on the metalcore-meets-pop sensibility the band introduced on their previous single, GHOST. This time, Broken Earth dive deep into the vulnerability of heartbreak, exploring the painful realisation that sometimes, the only way forward is to walk away.
Written during a period of deep personal struggle, vocalist Raphael Smith channels his battle with depression and anxiety into The Distance. The track serves as a narrative counterpiece to GHOST—where that song grappled with holding on, this one embraces letting go.
Bringing The Distance to life is long-time collaborator Mark Williamson (Inertia, Revoid) on production and mixing, with Kris Crummett (All Time Low, Sleeping With Sirens, Dance Gavin Dance) delivering on the master. As their first release of 2025, the single marks a refined and evolved sonic direction for the band.
Broken Earth is Raphael Smith (vocalist), Brad Stokes (bass), Benjamin Robinson (guitarist) and Sebastian Weir (drummer). Forming from the ashes of previous bands, the quartet have connected as Broken Earth and focus their efforts on making music genuine to themselves and their influences.
The band have cemented themselves as a relentless live act. Over the past 12 months, they’ve toured extensively across Australia, most recently supporting Miss May I (US) at their Sydney Knotfest sideshow. They’ve shared stages with heavyweights including Paledusk (JPN), No Bragging Rights (US), Caskets (UK), Windwaker, Gravemnind, Diamond Construct, The Beautiful Monument and more. With tens of thousands of digital streams, editorial playlist placements on Spotify and Apple Music and coverage from international music press, Broken Earth continues to carve their name into the scene.
The Distance is available now and streaming everywhere.
