Australian metalcore outfit Mirrors return reinvigorated, teasing a second album with the anticipated new single Vestige, out now via Resist Records. The band will debut the track live at Ocean Sleeper‘s holiday throwdown Christmas Show in Traralgon on December 13 – tickets on sale now!
Vestige is a powerful track, produced by Ionei Heckenberg (Ocean Sleeper) and mixed and mastered by Lance Prenc (Polaris, Alpha Wolf), exploring the tumultuous yet transformative journey of self-discovery and resilience. With crushing riffs, dreamy melodies and raw lyrical depth, the song takes listeners on a ride through darkness and into the light. It illustrates the process of being pulled into the depths of one’s struggles, only to emerge stronger, discovering who we truly are and what we deserve. Ultimately, the song conveys a sense of gratitude for that struggle, as the emergence of the true self feels like coming home.
“We wanted to get something out to the fans who have been so patient with us waiting for new material,” says the band. “Life happens, but now we are as invigorated as ever, writing material for our second album.”
Mirrors have carved a space in the heavy community with their heavy, atmospheric sound and deeply introspective lyrics. Formed in Gippsland in late 2016 by vocalist Patty Goodman and guitarist Tyson Taifer before welcoming Jack Mackin on bass and later Rob Brens on drums, Mirrors quickly turned the eyes and ears of Australian listeners towards Regional Victoria with the release of their debut EP ‘Fool’s Paradise’ in 2017.
‘Fool’s Paradise’ was followed by 2019’s ‘Cold Sanctuary’ EP. ‘Cold Sanctuary’ took the band beyond the borders of Victoria and around the country, showcasing their craft to audiences on tour with the likes of Wage War (US), Alpha Wolf, Thornhill, Crystal Lake (JPN) and many more. Ceaseless work by the band alongside the production team of Scott Simpson and Lance Prenc (Polaris, Alpha Wolf) began in 2019 and throughout 2020, culminating with an eleven track, genre busting tour de force, in their debut album ‘The Ego’s Weight‘.
Lyrical themes centred around the fall of morality and values while seeking to take decisive action against hate delivered by the soaring vocals of Goodman. Set against a backdrop of subtle and sparse grooves, to heart wrenching ballads, gigantic grooves and frenetic heavy compositions, ‘The Ego’s Weight’ truly is a journey for any lover of music and displays Mirrors as a whole greater than the sum of its parts. Nominated for Best Independent Heavy album or EP at the 2022 AIR Awards, ‘The Egos Weight’ delivered a multitude of opportunities for the quartet including appearances at Knight and Day Festival, Unify Forever Festival, Unify On The Road, Froth & Fury Festival, massive national headline tours as well as support slots with Polaris and While She Sleeps (UK) alongside Loathe (UK).
Vestige is available and streaming everywhere now via Resist Records. Catch it live at the Christmas Show Friday December 13!
