Through their music and advocacy over the years, Wildheart has earned a dedicated following and a long list of accolades. Their long-awaited sophomore album ‘Searching For Life Beyond Tragedy’ released Friday Friday, where Wildheart stand for open conversation and action surrounding mental health, social injustice, and discrimination.
Album overview: ‘Searching For Life Beyond Tragedy’ is the culmination of hard work and a passion for the pursuit of advocacy, awareness and empowerment. The release is home to eight poignant and scorchingly heavy new tracks, including singles The Darkest Path, Withered and Evergreen. Carrying the torch forward, the album delves into themes varying from political frustration, mental health awareness and social injustices.
- Searching For Life Beyond Tragedy
The opening title track works both as our introduction to the record and also works to connect musically with the outro of the last song, bringing everything full circle.
- Gallows
Like the title suggests, Gallows is very much about the anger people might feel towards the political and capitalist class as we struggle to survive. The song channels a sense of injustice and calls for a revolution against societal norms.
- The Darkest Path
The Darkest Path is centered around the trajectory that society is currently on. “Normalising oppression and death. Discrimination, injustice, is this our legacy?” – we are currently witnessing a year long genocide against the Palestianians which is now extending to other parts of the middle east, all funded and excused by leaders of the western world including those currently running Australia. The song touches on the rise in fascist sentiment around the world too, seeing more far right parties in Europe vying for power. The cult-like following that the Trump/MAGA movement has garnered and their influence has seen a rise in racial discrimination and bigotry towards other marginalised groups including the LGBTQIA+ community.
- Sunflower
Sunflower is another “softer” more melodic track centered around loss, heartbreak and opening up old wounds in regards to losing someone in a relationship whether it be romantic or platonic.
- Global Catastrophe
Global Catastrophe is a callback to our previous record which was very heavily centered around political corruption, racism, fascism. “I see your struggle, I feel your pain. They gave you nothing and took everything”
- Withered
Withered is easily the “softest” song on the album and it gave Jordan, our clean vocalist, space to really shine, we wanted something to break up the heavier parts of the album. The song touches on subjects and themes surrounding depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation.
- Revolt/Revolution
Revolt/Revolution is pretty on the nose, it’s about standing up and fighting back against oppression and dispossession. Lyrically it’s very similar to Gallows but musically we wanted to try something different and add some new elements.
- Evergreen
Whilst this song wasn’t specifically written about Gaza, it touches on Capitalism, Western Imperialism and the ongoing rise of the Fascist Right, which, in light of the ongoing events is something we wanted to talk about. The last 2 minutes of the song are a callback to the first which brings it all back to where it started.
