Breakout Brisbane progressive metalcore outfit Aeon Nexus will drop their debut single “Twin Hurricanes” on Friday 10th May, signalling an explosive start for the quartet. “Twin Hurricanes” will be the first in a series of singles set to release over the coming months, culminating in a full EP release in winter 2024.
The powerful track was mixed and mastered by Chris Themelco of Monolith Studios (Psycroptic, Orpheus Omega, Triple Kill) and artwork designed by Visual Amnesia of Jinjer’s “Macro” artwork fame.
The new vision of mainstay Brisbane metal frontwoman Sam Wolstenholme, Aeon Nexus have been making waves in the local metal scene in the short time since they formed in late 2023 with a successful debut gig supporting Citadel. The band are gearing up for a busy 2024 with shows already booked across Queensland right out to the end of the year.
“Twin Hurricanes” delivers a multi-layered modern metalcore soundscape driven by pulsating grooves, crushing breakdowns and shimmering 80s synths. Infectiously catchy chorus melodies battle for dominance with scorching screams in a sharp and assertive track that will please any Spiritbox or Architects fan.
Thematically, the track delves into the experience and aftermath of a toxic relationship. After gaining some distance from that devastation, the survivor reflects on what drew them into the eye of that chaos, while still holding the other party accountable. The track title is a twist on the cliched concept of “twin flames”, positing that the obsessive love our culture instructs us to strive for inevitably leads only to mutually assured destruction.
