Multi-platinum alternative powerhouse grandson will bring his genre-smashing prowess to Australia and New Zealand for the first time this January/February where he will embark on the final leg of his massive I Love You, I’m Trying world tour.
grandson molds genres, sculpting rock, hip-hop, and electronic into a vision of alternative you’ve never quite heard, seen, or felt before. Amassing a staggering 3.5 billion streams globally, the platinum-certified Canadian / American maverick flouts boundaries only to achieve stylistic unity with alacrity.
The Everblack Podcast sat down with musical crossover artist grandson to talk about his upcoming Australian tour, latest album ‘I Love You, I’m Trying’ and the importance of its subjects dealing with mental health, working with heroes Tom Morello and Mike Shinoda, playing the Coheed & Cambria cruise, opening for Deftones and The Smashing Pumpkins as well as his plans for his rock heavy next album.
Watch/listen to the interview here:
He infiltrated culture as a sonic insurgent with a pair of EPs – a modern tragedy Vol. 1-2 – and the 2x platinum single “Blood // Water”. In 2020, he continued to engage with his epically enigmatic full-length debut, Death of An Optimist. This year he turned the lens inward on his latest album, I Love You, I’m Trying, resulting in his most introspective and vulnerable collection of songs yet. His work has earned the applause of Rolling Stone, Variety, Billboard and many more as he continues to quietly reshape alternative.
grandson is rare outlier who can appear with Senator Bernie Sanders on a livestream and contribute two songs to James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, namely “Oh No!!!” [with VIC MENSA & Masked Wolf] and “Rain” [with Jessie Reyez] – the latter was also remixed by star Idris Elba.
Meanwhile, he’s impressively collaborated with everyone from Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and Steve Aoki to Travis Barker, Kesha, K. Flay, X Ambassadors, Whethan, Two Feet, and DE’WAYNE, just to name a few. Speaking of high-powered collabs, grandon also joined forces with Tom Morello for “Hold The Line” (which featured on Morello’s solo album) and performed it with the legendary guitarist on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
On the live front, the shapeshifting artist has also shared stages with Bring Me The Horizon, Avril Lavigne, Imagine Dragons and more. grandson has spent a good chunk of 2023 taking the I Love You, I’m Trying tour across the Northern Hemisphere and it’s finally our turn to experience the alchemy and community when he hits our shores in early 2024.
And honestly, grandson can’t wait either: “GRANNY DOWN UNDA. After too many long years and a gold record, we are finally bringing this rock and roll symphony to Australia and New Zealand for the final leg of the ILYIT world tour. Making movies, taking shoeys. It’s a dream come true for me and we will bring everything we have with us to these shows. See you there.”
