Newcastle metalcore outfit Vilify unleash scathing new single Dread Addict and will launch it live across the East Coast on tour with Bare Bones late November.
Detailing the emotional turbulence of frequently falling into a baseless cycle of dread and manifesting a reason for the feeling, Dread Addict is about being addicted to the lows and acting out to feel in control of that reality.
“When I am at my lowest with no explanation I find myself doing the worst of the worst,” explains vocalist Amy McIntosh. “Acting like a person I don’t recognise just to have a reason to feel the way I feel. It’s almost as if nothing logical is making me feel this shitty… I better go give myself a reason to feel shitty.”
Produced, mixed and mastered by Chris Blancato (Northlane, Reliqa, Bare Bones), the new track experiments with haunting undertones and softer clean vocal moments against harsh lead lines, welcoming a new dynamic to Vilify’s latest single. Vilify will embark on a short stint of shows across the East Coast with Sydney punks Bare Bones late November. The band will visit The Last Chance Rock & Roll Bar in Melbourne, The Duke of Enmore in Sydney, Bad Luck Bar in Brisbane for Aftermath Fest and they’ll round things out at their own headline show at Newcastle’s Hamilton Station Hotel at the Dread Addict single launch. Vilify is Amy McIntosh (vocals), Deni Hourihan (guitar), Kieran Jackson (drums) and Lizi Blanco (bass). The quartet established their dark and driving sound with their 2020 EP, ‘Clarity’ in which The Soundcheck described as a “Potent blend of punk, metal and melodic mayhem” and Wall Of Sound‘s Cait MacDonald professed it was: “absolutely in my shortlist for top 5 releases of the year”.
The EP was swiftly followed by several singles including Futility which triple j’s Claire Mooney boasted as having a “Sharp, cut throat delivery that’s full of intensity” and Odyssey which landed on the New Blood, All New Metal and Homegrown & Heavy Spotify playlists.
Never a band to shy away from heavy subject matters, their February single, Take The Pill, was described by NME Au as “crushing” as vocalist McIntoch divulged that the track is about, “the battle of balance between SSRIs, depression and drive”. Their most recent single From The Inside spoke to the relentless questioning that accompanies the journey of self discovery and identity. Both tracks saw the band achieve national radio play, clock tens of thousands of views on YouTube alone and established Vilify as a band on a mission to help others through candid storytelling and unrestrained live performance.
The band’s ability to captivate audiences and create an inclusive atmosphere has made them a highly sought-after support act sharing the stage with the likes of Northlane, Erra (USA), Paledusk (JPN), Alpha Wolf, Void Of Vision, Belle Haven, Windwaker and more since their inception.
