Slay For Me is the new single from Australia’s Industrial Titans, Our Last Enemy from the as yet unnamed/unannounced follow up to 2022’s ‘As Above So Below’ which had rave 10/10 reviews and hit 26 on the Aria independent charts. Produced by two-time ARIA nominee DW Norton and with the legendary John Sankey (Fear Factory, Divine Heresy) on drums, Slay For Me presents the start of the next chapter of the direct follow up to AASB.
The single is accompanied by a mind bending music video that is equal parts Mad Max apocalyptic road trip and a David Lynch fever dream, complete with throwbacks (in the form of a guest appearance character) to their first clip ‘10,000 Headless Horses’ for the eagle eyed viewer. The clip is shot by the same crew that helmed that video as well, ‘Vintage HD’ pioneers The Blackley Brothers of Her Name Is Murder Productions (Sepultura, Thy Art Is murder, Norma Jean, Alpha Wolf, Ocean Grove)

OLE bassist Matt Heywood says of the track; – When writing the riffs for Slay For Me, my life was in a really uncomfortable place, and I wanted a feeling of discomfort reflected in the song. One of the earliest ideas Wade and I had to achieve this was to essentially use a “chorus” riff in both the Chorus and the Verse of the song. When Oli got ahold of the early demos of the song this is something he built upon, using that real rhythmic drone to anchor the feelings reflected in the words.”
Frontman Oliver Fogwell adds: ‘shooting the clip was a 6am-9pm slog over 4 locations in a day – if we look frazzled in the clip it aint acting! It did help with the vibe of the shoot, we certainly felt at the end of the world at some points. Although the vintage Camaro we had for the day was a great way to get around – and we didnt total it!’
Off the back of a successful return to live touring in 2022 with an east coast run of dates to riotous crowds, the band followed it up with a main support for Powerman 5000 australia tour earlier this year. Previously the band have also shared stages with Combichrist, Perturbator, Static X, Dope, Prong, Mnemic and more!
Their dark, industrial tones and hypnotic rhythms are a soundtrack to the apocalypse and perfect for horror movies which led to one of their songs being included in a Troma (the Toxic Avenger) movie ‘Eating Miss Campbell’ which debuted this year with the screening hosted by Kevin Smith (Clerks/Mallrats)
Our Last Enemy’s debut album Fallen Empires (produced by Christian Olde Wolbers Fear Factory) hit #1 on iTunes metal charts and the Wolves of Perigord EP hit #2
Slay For Me represents the down and dirty grind of the bands methodical industrial riffs and synth embellishments with a big singalong chorus primed for the live arena. Thematically the song tackles the misguided ‘thoughts and prayers’ sentimentality of the modern age and challenges it with a call to action battle cry – rather than ineffective thoughts and off hand placation, strike action! SLAY FOR ME.
More to come from Our Last Enemy in the near future!
